Artificial intelligence, automation, autonomous systems, data management, new energy-efficiency solutions and more rational resource use. These are some of the key trends shaping the evolution of agricultural mechanisation, all of which are reflected in the EIMA 2026 Technical Innovations.

Innovation in agricultural machinery is not driven solely by entirely new machines. Increasingly, it takes shape through electronic systems, software, sensors and devices designed to make field operations smarter, safer and more precise. This is the picture that emerges from the EIMA 2026 Technical Innovations Competition, promoted by FederUnacoma as part of the 47th edition of EIMA International.

A total of 19 Technical Innovations have been selected by the international panel of experts, alongside 35 Technical Developments. The former are innovative applications featuring a high level of technological content, while the latter are original improvements to products that have already been manufactured or patented. Together, these 54 solutions demonstrate the ongoing research and development efforts of the agricultural mechanisation industry.
Artificial Intelligence and Autonomous Systems
Among the technologies defining this edition of the competition, the growing integration of agricultural machinery, electronics, software and artificial intelligence stands out. AI is increasingly being applied to practical aspects of agricultural work, from safety to enabling machines to interpret their surroundings and respond autonomously to operating conditions. At the same time, autonomous and robotic systems are expanding their range of applications, while connectivity and data management make it possible to turn information collected during field operations into actionable insights.

Another overarching trend is the drive for greater precision in the use of agricultural inputs. Irrigation, application, seeding, tillage and crop management are increasingly supported by sensors, maps, automatic control systems and technologies capable of adapting machine operation to actual field conditions. The objective is twofold: to improve work quality and make more efficient use of water, energy, products and technical resources.
Electrification on the Rise
Electrification and hybrid powertrains are also among the award-winning innovations, alongside advances in hydraulic systems, human-machine interfaces and electronic architectures. The trend is towards increasingly integrated machines, in which mechanical and electronic components work together as parts of a single system.

In this respect, the Technical Innovations Competition, organised by FederUnacoma since 1986, is one of the most interesting showcases of the evolution of agricultural mechanisation. The selection process focuses not only on machine power or performance, but also recognises solutions that deliver tangible improvements to production processes and the quality of operators’ work.
EIMA 2026 Technical Innovations
The 19 EIMA 2026 Technical Innovations and 35 Technical Developments will take centre stage in the exhibition set up in the Quadriportico at BolognaFiere during EIMA International, scheduled to take place in Bologna from 10 to 14 November 2026. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore, in one dedicated space, a selection of technologies shaping the evolution of agricultural machinery, which is becoming increasingly digital, automated, connected and focused on efficiency.

The selection of award-winning technologies provides a clear picture of the transformation underway in the sector: agricultural machinery is no longer simply an assembly of mechanical components, but a system capable of collecting data, interpreting it, communicating with other machines and, in certain applications, making operational decisions. This transformation aims to meet productivity and safety requirements while also addressing challenges related to sustainability, resource availability and the growing complexity of agricultural work.
